When you retire, you and your dependents may be eligible to enroll in the university's Retiree Dental Plan.

Eligibility

You are eligible for the Tufts University Retiree Dental Plan if:

  • You are age 60 or older with 5 years of benefits-eligible service
  • Or the sum of your age and benefits-eligible service equals 75
  • Or are a spouse, domestic partner, or dependent child of a benefit-eligible faculty or staff member

Plan Features and Rates

Eligible retirees may enroll in the Delta Dental Premier Plan, a comprehensive dental plan for you and your family. This plan allows you to choose between service at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine Clinic or at a private practice with a PPO Network Dentist.

Monthly Rate
Individual $52.64
Two-Person $117.89
Family $141.04

Enrollment

To enroll, complete and submit one of the following forms to tss@tufts.edu:

To ensure a timely and streamlined transition of your dental coverage, you must complete the enrollment process 31 days prior to your retirement. If you do not enroll within 31 days of your retirement, you forfeit the right for you and your dependents to receive dental coverage through the university’s plan in the future.

If enrolled, coverage will start on your retirement date and you will be billed for your dental coverage by EBPA, the university's third-party billing administrator.

ID Cards

Retirees can use their existing ID cards, as Delta Dental will not send new ID cards to retirees. Members don't need a physical ID card to use benefits, however you can contact Delta Dental for additional ID cards. Providers can confirm coverage by contacting Delta Dental.

COBRA Coverage

At the time of your retirement, EBPA, the university's COBRA vendor, will send you rates and enrollment information for continuing your dental coverage under COBRA. If you have questions about choosing the right option for yourself and your family or if you do not receive a COBRA notice within two weeks of your retirement date, call EBPA directly at 888-232-3203.
